Helping Nonprofits Address Vital Issues in Hampton Roads

  • FACT’s Autism Resource Center

“FACT’s Autism Resource Center will be a state-of-the-art facility where FACT and other organizations provide a variety of complementary services to thousands of individuals with autism and similar disabilities in one single location in Hampton Roads. The new Center will be centrally located in Virginia Beach off I-264, making it easily accessible for families from around the region. By collaborating, cooperating, and cohabitating with an array of other nonprofits, FACT’s 21,900 square foot Autism Resource Center will provide an amazing opportunity to create a supportive, loving, and nurturing environment for these individuals and their families throughout their lifetime.”

  • Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services Program

“Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services Program is the only club-house model program of its type in South Hampton Roads, providing services to the population of more than 40,000 people living with brain injury.  In addition to case management, this program helps survivors rebuild their ability to perform activities of daily living, and ultimately, be able to participate in all facets of their life to the fullest extent possible.  There is a continuous effort to serve more people and expand our menu of services to survivors in Hampton Roads.  It is through partnership, like that with The Blocker Foundation, that allows us to further connect and support individuals through training to employment, to living their best life."

Danielle Nance, Vice President of Marketing and Development of Eggleston
  • Horizons Hampton Roads

“For 23 years, Horizons Hampton Roads has been helping ensure children thrive through exciting, hands-on instruction in reading, STEM, and an array of enrichment activities, including swim lessons, art and music, and weekly field trips. COVID-19 has taken its toll on student learning, along with their social-emotional well-being, making Horizons more relevant than ever. This summer, thanks to the generosity of the Blocker Foundation, students in K-8 will participate in instruction aimed at enhancing students’ overall literacy. Our goal is for children to connect with what they read – and experience – to help them discover new interests and ignite a love for learning. Thank you, Blocker!”

Brenda Garrett, Executive Director, Horizons Hampton Roads
  • Habitat for Humanity

“For over 30 years, Habitat SHR has built and sold safe, affordable homes to low-income South Hampton Roads families. Recently, due to significant community requests, we created a complimentary mission to provide essential home repairs and ADA accessibility for income-constrained senior, disabled, and/or Veteran homeowners. Without these critical repairs and modifications, homeowners often find themselves in unsafe and unhealthy living conditions in their own homes. The Blocker Foundation’s generosity is enabling us to help more South Hampton Roads families stay warm, safe, and dry in their homes through essential home repairs. We, and the families we serve, are immensely grateful for their support.”

Frank Hruska, Executive Director, Habitat SHR
